This is Yoga.
Yoga isn't about what you look like, it's about what you feel like.
Qualified in Occupational Therapy and as a Clinical Specialist in Chronic Pain Sophie understands just how devastating and debilitating chronic pain can be. Sophie is also currently training as a Yoga Therapist: Come to a chair Yoga or gentle class to explore techniques to support the management of your pain symptoms.
Physical movement is just a small part of Yoga. In fact it's included in less than 1% of a core Yoga text. In every class Sophie will guide you through a supportive theme to encourage you to see things from a different perspective.
Ever noticed that you're either thinking about the past or worrying about the future? Meditation and mindfulness give you tools to be in the moment, this moment. Sophie's classes will introduce you to simple strategies that can act as an anchor to the present.
Yoga promotes a strengthening of the mind-body connection. Do you know what the vagus nerve is? Come to Sophie's class to find out what this part your body is and why breathing exercises are an essential pillar to our overall health and wellbeing.
Person centred one-to-one Yoga in Saddleworth combining movement, meditation and breath work. Tailored to your needs, symptoms and any health conditions you may be living with.
Sophie's passion in life is providing free Yoga to people who believe they "can't do Yoga". In 2019, she was awarded a funding grant by the organisation Near Neighbours to run a free Yoga community project. This project looked at connecting together women from different faith and ethnic community backgrounds to learn and practice Yoga in a safe space. In late 2022- May 2023 Sophie began partnership working with Saheli Women's Group to continue running twice weekly free Yoga sessions for all as funded by Versus Arthritis and Sport England.
In 2023, Sophie delivered 5 weeks of Chair Yoga with the Charity Opal Advocacy. Opal organises activities for people with a learning disability and/or autism in Oldham and this project was funded by Sport England.
In 2022 she taught weekly Yoga sessions at two homeless accommodation sites as run by Stockport Homes. These sessions were free for service users and staff members alike to attend. Sophie couldn't think of a better way to serve her community and the Yoga that she teaches is tailored to the individuals that attend and how they feel/ present at the time of attendance.
In 2023 Sophie founded Move & Heal a Community Interest Company looking to bring holistic health to all sectors of our communities. If you are part of an organisation that is looking to incorporate Yoga as an activity for your service users, please get in touch if you're interested in a collaboration.
