Reiki [which is pronounced ray-key] is a Japanese word that means "Universal Life Force Energy". It's an ancient form of healing which works to create spiritual, mental and physical harmony in the mind and body. It was re-introduced to Japan in the mid-nineteenth century by Dr Mikao Usui.
It is system of healing that is either completed by placing a hand gently on the body or hovering over parts of the body, depending on your preference. Reiki triggers instant healing power; it can be used for self-healing, healing others, animals, plants and even situations past and future.
Though Reiki isn't just for when you are ill; it can assist in you living your life to the fullest, encouraging a sense of balance, control and management throughout your days. Reiki is a holistic approach to your health and helps you to promote, prevent and manage symptoms of your general health and/or long term illnesses.
What's brilliant about Reiki is that it channels itself wherever it is needed most. By stimulating the body's natural healing ability at the deepest level, it removes physical and emotional blockages that may have been causing illness, inflammation or emotional upsets for a very long time.
Reiki practitioners are not healers; because of its attunement procedures practitioners can be considered an instrument to channel Universal Life Force Energy from the source to the you.
Sophie has been using Reiki as a source of healing since 2018, following her training and attunement from Marilyn Heginbotham. On this page you can see Sophie's lineage of teachers, or masters as we say in Reiki.
Sophie has observed first hand how Reiki can:
With over 10 years of professional experience in the NHS, Sophie is more than aware that Reiki does not replace conventional medicine. However, Sophie has clinically used Reiki as a non invasive therapy alongside OT with confidence, seeing wonderful results for her clients.
With healthcare moving away from the medical model and more in the direction of a biopsychosocial approach; Reiki is now being used in GP surgeries, hospices, cancer support groups, post operative recovery centres, drug rehabilitation programmes, prisons and in care of the elderly.
The ideal space for a Reiki treatment is a cosy, quiet, safe and nourishing space... Sophie runs her reiki clinic in such a space in the centre of Uppermill. Treatments offered include a 60 minute appointment. Sophie offers a free 30 minute telephone consultation so questions can be asked and symptoms explored and explained.

While belief can enhance the experience, many people report positive effects regardless of their prior beliefs about energy healing. Openness to the experience is often more important than belief.
It is recommended that Reiki is delivered as a series of treatments for a specific symptom of a health condition, not unlike attending any other therapy session. For commitment and consistency to achieve insight and balance, once a week or once a fortnight can be supportive. However, some clients book a session for an hour time out to destress from their life. One Reiki session lasts 1 hour; should you wish to book in for a series of treatments you can simply check my online diary and book in for sessions whenever you wish. There is no financial commitment beyond one appointment or to attend a certain number of sessions: How often people attend varies on their personal circumstances.
Sophie holds her 1:1 sessions in Uppermill. It is a peaceful and inviting space that is dedicated to making you feel safe and comfortable to experience Reiki. A table, blankets, eye pillows, bolsters and essential oils are available for your comfort... so you can simply just show up. There will of course, always be a pot of herbal tea or a glass of water waiting for you.
Sophie's 1:1 clinic is now running back to back appointments so please arrive at the earliest of 2 minutes before your scheduled appointment time as there is no waiting area.
Yes, there is free parking next to Uppermill Park. If there are no spaces you can look for street parking behind the restaurant Salt, on Court street or next to the Commercial Pub which is a two minute walk away. Do not park in the small car park next to the Hare & Hound pub as it is short stay only .
Wear comfortable clothes that are loose fitting on the stomach area; this aids comfortable natural breath and relaxation of the body.
